My goddaughter spent a good year travelling the Philippines without a job.
When she told me about this, I was genuinely surprised to hear all her stories about the places she lived, the people she met, and the adventures she had!
And much like everyone else, I had to ask her: how did she do it?
The answer? She was selling handmade jewelry.
Along with teaching yoga, she had taught herself to make custom jewelry like macrame necklaces, beaded earrings, and braided anklets.
The people she encountered liked the pieces she made so much that they wanted to know if they were for sale!
Hearing her story got me thinking about how craft really does open up so many possibilities and opportunities of livelihood, no matter your level of mastery.
It still rings true that often, the most thoughtful gifts are those that feel most like home. Handmade gifts tend to feel more thoughtful because of the time and effort that went into making it.
You even have artisans who dedicate their life to mastering their craft which gives their work deeper meaning, it makes sense why they charge how they do.
At Metals & Gems, we believe that passion for your craft will naturally catapult you towards an audience that genuinely appreciates what you create.
So if you're looking for a sign whether or not you should invest in your craft and turn it into a business, this is it!
This is your sign to believe in your imagination and abilities!
Don't be afraid to bet on yourself.
Your work is good.
And we believe in you.
Best of luck!
